I was getting frustrating at using the wrong MicroSD cards in write-intensive operations like a Raspberry Pi, so I set out to test the assortment of 32GB and 64GB MicroSD cards I have.

Testing setup:
  • SABRENT USB 3.1 MicroSD reader
  • Dedicated (not-shared) USB 3.1 port on my desktop PC
  • f3read / f3write from the Fight Flash Fraud project.

Results from the assortment of MicroSD cards I have are in the table below. All tests were done on blank cards, on an idle machine.

Speeds are in MB/s, and the average speed after writing/reading at least 5GB.

Manufacturer Name Class Size Write Read
Samsung EVO Select UHC 1 / HC 1 64GB 20 88
Samsung EVO Select UHC 1 / HC 1 32GB 18 89
PNY Elite-X UHC 3 / XC 1 / V30 64GB 39 90
Sandisk Ultra UHC 1 32GB 8 43
Sandisk Ultra UHC 1 64GB 9 43
Sandisk Extereme UHC 3 / XC 1 / V30 64GB 63 89
